10/15/2009 Fall was in the air last week with crisp morning temperatures, pure Autumn skies and Bass on the move. Last week's trips really gave the feeling that things are in full gear in the back country, just a glimpse of what's to come. My time in the backcountry last week was spent targeting nice size pods of Bass tailing on the fall flats, rolling in the shallow water basins and laid up in some very skinny water, all with good results with nice size Bass hiding in some very interesting locations. Most Bass throughout the week ranged in size from 24"-31," which is substantially larger than week's past and needless to say that with the monumental amount of bait in back all the Bass have been very fat and healthy. The Bass have been tracking very predictably allowing us to stay in front of Bass consistently throughout trips. With the water temperatures prime in the upper 50s it won't be long until those high sun fall days filled with sight fishing will descend upon us. With the cool weather forecasted for the entire upcoming week, combined with post Nor'easter conditions, more and more of these bruiser size Bass will be pushing into the backcountry. I think that this is just a sample of what's to come over the next few weeks. Fasten your seat belts, things will start to happen fast and the back country is perched to continue to work its magic.
