11/04/2009 The roller coaster of temperatures continued today as I was greeted at the boat with 37 degree air temps and a skiff deck covered in ice. The waters looked very fishy with a tide that offered us good moving water and plenty of bait, in fact a bit too much bait. We arrived at our fist spot today and immediately cold see fish rolling on bait like Tarpon, free jumping blue fish, and other assorted prey/predators. sipping the surface and as it happens the bait to water ratio was too thick and could not buy a strike. With the the tide reaching a grassy level we ran to sight fish an are that should offers us a good opportunity to target a few single fish that would be working the grasses for shrimp. and no sooner than we got there we started seeing our target, We switched up techniques to prepare for our shot at this sizable 30" + Bass tucked in the grass ambushing shrimp as it got swept by. Our first cast was slightly off the mark and the Bass turned but didn't pursue it. The second cast was right on the money and as it swept in front of the Bass it was game on as he globbed on to it with full commitment. Just as I was thinking how easy it was he got off. The are cooled off and we headed out and hit a few more spots which produced a couple of more strikes, 1 shot at another sizable Bass tailing in the shallows, but only managed getting one teen size Bass boat side.
